The Hiking Humanitarian

I've dropped out of touch with CAPA as I've struggled a bit to find my identity (read, marketing niche). I handicapped myself a bit when, as a first time author, I competed with The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire in the breadth and scope of my subject matter. With now a good handle of where to proceed with my published book, and a second book on the way, I am ready to "brand myself."

Branding myself is a bit ironic, considering that humility is a topic I write profusely about. Yet… Continue

Daily visitors to Blog has doubled

I now have two blogs, one on women's fashions at called Victorian Women's Fashions. This is my original blog and I add pages or posts as needed.

My additional blog, of which I am most proud and spend the most time, is a daily blog. It is based on the journals of four 19th century women who lived at sea with their husbands, all captains of whaleships.…

Working, working...but life is good

I haven't taken a lot of time to write about what I've been doing because I've been doing it. Finally, I may see a breathing space and I can report that the LWG Anthology II of The Litchfield Writers Guild is about to become reality, hopefully by the end of September, 2010. It is a book of stories, vignettes, poems and interesting memoirs compiled and edited by me on behalf of the group. Coincidentally, I have finished work on The Mission, a post apocalypse adventure novel… Continue

Using a Word Processing Program to Create a Page Layout

The layout of your book is very important. The average paperback book size is six inches wide and nine inches tall, which is much smaller than the average size of a sheet of an 8.5 x

11 inch sheet of paper. This means that if you are submitting a book for

printing, you will need to select the proper page setup.…

A bit of an intro......

My name is Heidi Schlatter, and I hail from Granby, CT. I can’t say that I’m a struggling artist, because other than for a short time as an 11 year old when I first realized I wanted to write a book, I really have

not done much beyond editorial comments and school essays. Until recent years,

two to be exact, I have been muddling along trying to stay afloat financially

during rather unstable times. So two years ago as I referenced, I was at work

Thanks to Harry Rinker for a professional radio interview on WXCI's Meet the Author show.

I just received the taped interview from when I appeared on the Harry Rinker " Meet the Author " show and listened to my book interview. ( Leaving Home, Going Home, Returning Home ) I realized how professional it was, and I know why. He actually read the whole book as he said he does , before the interviews. That is in contrast to some of the other author interviews I have done where the book was skimmed through or the reviewer had their own set of standardized questions that might or might…

Kindle - Kindle

look for my latest long short story, or shortest novella, on Kindle - "She Should Have Come For Me" - a dark thriller, a relationship examined from an unusual viewpoint - with a surprise ending

I received a stunning review from Nina Sankovitch - on for my previous psychological mystery book Where Is She Now? -

all this has re kindled my enthusiasm for writing!

Everything You Need to Know About Social Media You Should Have Learned in Pre-school

When you take away the high-tech veneer - the fancy apps etc.,- and the various forms of Social Media are appraised for what they really are, things get pretty easy. Social media are simply new communications

tools and as such, the same basic principles for effective human

communication apply and anyone can learn them. In fact, everything you

need to know to use Facebook,…
